Chad Wys

Opus 2 / Nocturne 112
Opus 5 / Skin

Nocturne 113

In his own words, Chad Wys is an artist, writer, designer and image thief. In my words, he is delicious. I haven't been so instantly drawn to a contemporary artist in a long time. It is probably the mixture of old and new, found, readymade and collage that sucked me in - I struggle to resist a nice bit of classical art and history. It is the rough beauty and strangeness that really gripped me though. It is hypnotic. I want to wallow in his work.

So I have fallen quite swiftly and aggressively in love. What's up with you?

In other art news, too late to be of use to anyone, the Barocci exhibition at the National Gallery was totally wonderful while the Picasso at the Courtauld was a bit of a waste of time.

Tumblr State of Mind

Historically I have been fairly anti-Tumblr. Personally, not generally, that is. I've always just been more of a words person. I found the never ending stream of decontextualised images disorientating and rather grating... Weirdly, given that, Tumblr is the only place I want to play right now. It seems to suit where my brain. It is so sprawling and shattered and disconnected but full of beauty and communities and funzes. It is non-judgmental and it seems to be all I am capable of after work. I like it.

Of course, I would get into it just in time for the Yahoo takeover but fingers crossed they won't break it. I don't understand how Yahoo can be so established but still so bad at the internetz. Baffling... It is excellent to see women laughing alone with salad and feminist Ryan Gosling on the BBC news though.

So, any Tumblr recs?

Yes

Stussy via Inside-Out

Truth, Stussy. Where are the adverts like this today? More Botticelli please. On the bright side, it's nice to see Stussy easily available. I've been eyeing this t-shirt for a while although the logical part of my mind protests quite strongly against £43 for a t-shirt. Ebay is probably more in the spirit of the thing.
