Thomas Lawrence

I went to see the Thomas Lawrence exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery today and it was gorgeous. If you are in/near London I would really recommend it (heads up - it is very expensive, £9 for students). He captured high society with warmth and charm. I would love to have him paint me because he seems to have brought out the best in all his subjects. He is also particularly brilliant with details - fashions, textiles, jewels - so you can bask in the Regency glory.

These pictures do not do the large paintings justice but they are still lovely...

(Marguerite, Countess of Blessington - Wallace Collection, London)

(Lady Peel - Frick Collection, New York)

(The Daughters of Colonel Thomas Carteret Hardy - Cleveland Museum of Art?)

(Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington)

(Pope Pius VII - Royal Collection, Windsor)

(Elizabeth Farren - The Met, NY)

(Mary Hamilton - close up c/o the British Museum, London)

(Queen Charlotte - National Gallery, London)

(Look at her hand, it is just perfect - close up c/o Making a Mark)

I hope you enjoyed wallowing in all that beauty as much as I did.
